Sisi lain Madinah

Sejak tanggal 28 September 2011 yang lalu, saya berkesempatan untuk mengunjungi kota Madinah Al Munawaroh. Perjalanan ke kota itu saya tempuh melalui perjalanan darat dengan menggunakan bus selama kurang lebih 6 jam dari kota Makkah.

Kesempatan untuk mengunjungi kota Madinah ini bukan perjalanan biasa, melainkan dalam rangka melaksanakan tugas sebagai PPIH (Panitia Penyelenggara Ibadah Haji) 2011. Pelaksananaan tugas tersebut akan saya sampaikan dalam kesempatan yang lain. Kota Madinah memiliki luas 589 km2 dengan ketinggian dari permukaan laut sekitar 608 m seperti tercantum dalam sumber ini. Dengan kondisi geografis yang sedemikian, kota madinah memiliki suhu sekitar 30-45 derajat celcius dengan suhu yang berubah drastis pada malam hari.

Kalau kita lihat gambar disamping ini, tergambar jelas tentang situasi kota Madinah secara umum selain tampilan masjid Nabawi yang fantastik itu. Bangunan-bangunan di Kota Madinah memiliki bentuk-bentuk yang unik yaitu berupa kotak-kotak tanpa ada atap diatasnya, yakinlah mereka tidak membutuhkan atap sebagai tempat mengalirnya air hujan seperti kebanyakan perumahan kita di Indonesia. Hal tersebut jelas setelah saya tanyakan kepada salah satu kawan mukimin di sini yang mengatakan, bahwa alhamdulillah dalam setahun hujan hanya akan turun sekali dan bukan dalam sepanjang hari juga melainkan hanya sesaat saja. Kawan mukimin juga menyampaikan kalau sempet hujan (yang notabene setahun sekali itu) turun sehari penuh, yakin kota Madinah akan banjir.

Latar belakang foto itu adalah jabal (gunung) uhud, merupakan gunung yang bersejarah dalam peperangan spiritual dan politik zaman nabi Muhammad SAW seperti tertulis dalam salah satu blog. Sementara bangunan-bangunan yang tergambar dalam foto tersebut merupakan model-model perumahan warga arab dan yang sebagian besar digunakan untuk tempat pertokoan dilantai dasarnya dan perumahan di lantai atasnya. Bahkan jangan kaget apabila menemukan bangunan-bangunan yang terlihat kumuh itu juga terdapat hotel-hotel kelas menengah yang akan sangat padat pada musim umroh dan haji.

Bangunan-bangunan berbentuk kotak tanpa ada atap tersebut belakangan saya ketahui sangat bermanfaat bagi para jamaah haji atau panitia sekalipun, karena dengan adanya teras dibagian atap dapat digunakan sebagai tempat menjemur pakaian. Saya akan sambung lagi cerita ini, kedalam bagian lain.
